Fiat Chrysler NV Recalls 1.4M Vehicles For Security Patch

July 24, 2015—Fiat Chrysler announce they are recalling 1.4 million vehicles in the United States for emergency security patches. This announcement follows a proof-of-concept demonstration that showed security researchers Charlie Miller and Chris Valasek taking remote control of a Jeep Cherokee’s onboard computer and entertainment system. The extent of the hack range from controlling the vehicle’s windshield wipers to more dangerous actions like controlling steering and the brakes.

Fiat Chrysler says there is no known real-world use of this uncovered vulnerability but they are doing the recall nonetheless as “an abundance of caution.”
