Fiat Chrysler NV Recalls 1.4M Vehicles For Security Patch

July 24, 2015—Fiat Chrysler announce they are recalling 1.4 million vehicles in the United States for emergency security patches. This announcement follows a demonstration that showed researchers taking remote control of a Jeep Cherokee’s onboard computer and entertainment system. The extent of the hack range from controlling the vehicle’s windshield wipers to more dangerous actions like controlling steering and the brakes.

Intel and Micron Create Storage 1000x Faster Than NAND

July 28, 2015—Intel and Micron announce a new storage technology that can be a thousand times faster than the existing and popular non-volatile NAND flash memory. Called 3D XPoint, this new kind of memory can function as a system memory (RAM) and as a non-volatile storage (SSD).

The two companies invented unique material compounds that enable 3D XPoint to, not only be faster than NAND, but also more durable.

Intel Launched New Processors at Computex 2015

June 2015, Taipei—Intel introduced five new consumer-class quad-core Broadwell processors at Computex 2015. All the CPUs come with Iris Pro 6200 integrated graphics, 6MB L3 cache, and 128MB L4 cache.

For servers, Intel also launched the Xeon E3-1284L v4. Looking at performance and power-consumption, this new processor is between the older models E3-1265L v4 and E3-1285L v4.

Jaguar Land Rover Recalls 65K Cars Due to Software Bug

Jaguar Land Rover is recalling more than 65,000 Range Rovers and Range Rover Sport due to a keyless-entry software glitch, which can cause those models’ door latches to unlock randomly even when the car is moving. The affected models are the 2013 to 2016 Range Rover and the 2014 to 2016 Range Rover Sport.

The recall began on August 7, 2015.

Increase in Microsoft prices

Our prices for Microsoft (MS) licenses will increase effective (August 11, 2015). This adjustment is due to the same increase implemented by Microsoft at the start of 2015. The new MS license prices are as follows:

  • Windows server 2012 Standard 1-2 CPU - $29.99/month
  • Windows server 2012 Datacenter 1-2 CPU - $139.99/month
  • Windows server 2008 Standard 1 CPU - $29.99/month
  • Windows server 2008 Datacenter 1 CPU - $139.99/month

The price for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 license will remain at $15/month.
